ISTMA-CITMA Webinar: Company name complaints and UK IPO proceedings

The Institute of Singapore Trade Mark Agents (“ISTMA”) will be hosting a webinar with the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Agents (“CITMA) on the 21st of February 2023 at 5pm (Singapore time). The webinar topic will be: Company Name Complaints and UK IPO proceedings. Both proceedings are managed by the UK Intellectual Property Office in the UK. In addition to explaining about the Company Names Tribunal, the webinar will provide details on prosecution actions available in the UK including oppositions, invalidities and revocations and appeals through to the Appointed Person and High Court. Time-permitting, there will be a review one or two interesting UK decisions as well. The Speaker will be Ms. Kelly Saliger, Vice-President of CITMA, and a Solicitor and Chartered Trade Mark Attorney at the London office of CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP. The webinar will be moderated by Mrs Murgiana Haq.

Profile of speaker

Ms. Kelly Saliger is Vice-President of the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys, and works for CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang LLP’s London office as a Solicitor and Chartered Trade Mark Attorney.

Kelly has been in practice for nearly 15 years across a number of sectors including the telecommunications and pharmaceutical markets, the latter with a focus on wellness and supplements. As part of her ongoing interest in wellness Kelly has undertaken her Pilates teacher training with pre-eminent US body Polestar and enjoys practising in her spare time, as well as reading murder mysteries and terrible sci-fi novels.

Evidence of Kelly’s capabilities including leading cases and advocating before the UK IPO, leading cases before the EU IPO and General Court, cross-jurisdiction litigation, Commission Complaints on delay in member states (in relation to trade marks) and appeals to the European Court of Human Rights on delay (also on trade marks).

Profile of moderator

Mrs Murgiana Haq is the President of the Institute of Singapore Trade Mark Agents. She is an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court, Singapore, a Registered Patents Agent, and the Managing Partner of hslegal LLP.

Murgiana has had an illustrious career in intellectual property matters since 1974. She was at the forefront of many intellectual property developments in Singapore where she played a key role. She was the first President of Asian Patent Attorneys Association–Singapore Group and served on the main Group Council as a Councillor and Vice-President. She was instrumental in setting up the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association on which she served as President. She was the first Chair of the
Women Business Lawyer’s Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association. She served on Singapore’s Franchise Advisory Committee during its formative years. She was an Advisory Committee Member of the National Patents and Innovation Centre and served on the Advisory Board of the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Committee, which was formed to promote entrepreneurship and innovation.
