ISTMA joined WIPO and ASPA in working with a non-government organization called Inspiring Girls. Inspiring Girls invited us to participate in the Nanyang Girls High School career fair for 16 year olds on 26 May 2022. ISTMA was represented by Boo Yee Swan and Tasneem Haq, both ISTMA Councillors. Our Councillors met with several students to talk to them about options in terms of careers paths into the IP profession. Many of the students were interested in more recent IP cases and how one becomes specialised in this area of the law.
We also took the opportunity to explain why WIPO, ASPA and ISTMA had important roles to play in the shaping of the IP profession and rendering quality IP services to the public. The students participated in an IP quiz which was great fun. Three pairs of IMAX movie tickets were up for grabs, kindly sponsored by WIPO. We had three happy winners at the end of the career fair.
We will have more opportunities to participate at such events in the future and ISTMA members will be invited to participate as well.
